Verna May (Lindsey) Walker passed on from this life September 15th 2019 in Pinedale, Wyoming with her Husband Darrell by her side and surrounded by family.
Verna was born a twin on February 7th 1934 in Sheridan Wyoming to Alice and Virgil Lindsey. She attended school in Sheridan and spent her summers on her Uncle Jack and Deyo Jeffers Ranches. She attended Colorado Women's College (representing them yearly in the Denver stock show) and Graduated in 1954. She worked as the Secretary of Psychology at the V.A hospital in Sheridan until 1956. She married Darrell Dee Walker on June 1st 1956. They moved to Laramie and lived in the Butler huts while Darrell attended College. She worked as a secretary for an Attorney and also in the AG Bio-Chemistry Department at the University of Wyoming. They spent summers in Pinedale where they made lifelong friendships. Darrell and Verna packed up Jay, Kathy and Jon and moved to Somalia in January of 1968 where Darrell was a soil scientist for the University of Wyoming. She enjoyed Somalia and was the Business Manager for the American School in Mogadishu for 2 ½ years. Verna loved to share her memories about the people of Somalia. They returned to the states and moved to Sublette county in 1970. Patrick was born in February 1972. The Family lived in Boulder and on the ranch in Daniel before building on the hill above the Daniel junction. She hosted the Bronx Community Club Christmas Dinner on a 60 below night before the carpet had been installed. Verna was a member of the Cowbells and the Bronx Community Club and a 4H leader. She was active with Women's Aglow, church functions, and was always baking for fundraisers and community Dinners. She was famous for her peanut brittle, angel food cakes, brownies and lemon bars. Verna volunteered as the secretary for Sublette County Farm Bureau before becoming an insurance agent and starting Walker Associates. She loved singing in community choirs, needlepoint and sewing. Verna and Darrell operated Pitchfork Fondue for many years and truly enjoyed all the people they met and friends they visited with. They were featured on an episode of "Taste of America" on the Food Network. Verna loved spending time with her children and grandchildren teaching them to bake and supporting them in school events and activities. Verna was a member of the Church of the Resurrection and a cherished member of the Pinedale community.
She was preceded in death by her twin (Merna), Mother and Father, and Brother Ivan.
She is survived by her Husband of 63 years Darrell, her son Jay (Cheri) Walker of Ottumwa IA, daughter Kathy (Kim) Bright of Pinedale, son Jon of Pinedale, and son Patrick (Stephanie) Walker of Livingston, MT. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rebecca Christy, Jessica Anderson, Katie Sherwood, Kenny Walker, Taylor Walker, Garrett Walker, Keegan Walker and Landon Walker and nine great grandchildren.
Verna leaves behind many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews and close friends that she cared for greatly.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday September 21, at Pinedale Community Church, 113 S. Maybell. Memorial gifts in Verna's name can be sent to the Sublette Center or Rendezvous Pointe.
Verna's joy, wisdom, and caring nature touched the lives of more people than ever could be recalled or listed here. She was a positive and graceful presence in every room she entered and lives on in our memory as an example of how a wonderful person can live a full and beautiful life.
