Lifelong Sublette County resident Tharon Greenwood Thompson, 92, of Big Piney, Wyoming passed away peacefully at the Sublette Center in Pinedale, Wyoming on October 8, 2015. Tharon was the first child born to James F. and Mae E. Mickelson on August 23, 1923. She graduated from high school in Big Piney, Wyoming and went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming. In 1950 she married James A. Greenwood, Jr. They were married for 37 years until the time of his death in 1989. From this union four children were born- Jill, Celeste, Elizabeth, and James Avery. Tharon later married Robert V. Thompson who preceded her in death in March of 2015. In addition, Tharon is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mae Mickelson; brother Polly Mickelson; sister Betty Thompson; and daughter Jill Palm. She is survived by brother, Gordon (Margaret) Mickelson of Big Piney, WY; daughters Celeste Mori (Robert) of Kemmerer, WY and Elizabeth Greenwood of Pinedale, WY; son James Greenwood (Suzanne) of Big Piney, WY. ; three adult step children- Scott, Tim, and Peter Thompson; and eight grandchildren-Andrea Gallegos (Derek), Brandon Palm, Michael Mori, Alisa Rawson (Jesse), Jake Greenwood (Mary), Levi Greenwood, Parker Greenwood, Hannah Brown, two step-grandchildren- Damion and Patrick Brown, and five great-grandchildren. Tharon lived a full life serving on many boards and committees as well as actively working with her first husband Jim on their ranch the Bar Flying V. She was a member of the American League Auxiliary and Ranch Woman of the year for Sublette County in 1990. She was a pianist for the Big Piney Community Congregational Church for over 50 years, actively participated in the Sublette County Artist's Guild, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Tharon was an excellent cook and honed her culinary skills while cooking for hay crews, cowboys and the many guests she hosted. She loved reading and wrote beautiful stories of special people and events in her life. She adored her grandchildren and loved the opportunity to care for and get to know them. Tharon never missed an opportunity to travel the world and see new sights. Though she suffered many losses and health challenges in her life, she was never without a smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Funeral service will be held at the Southwest Sublette County Pioneer's Senior Center in Marbleton on Monday, October 12 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jim Silvey officiating. Burial will follow at Big Piney Cemetery.
