Sylvia Marie Rose passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 90.

Sylvia was born November 21, 1935, in Laurel, Montana, to Henry and Mary Miller. She was one of nine children and was raised in the country, where she developed the strong work ethic and independence she carried throughout her life.

She later settled in Tacoma, Washington, where she built her life and was a loyal Seahawks fan. Sylvia was known for being both strict and fiercely independent— It was her way or the highway, and she was not afraid to tell you her opinion or what was on her mind. Those qualities are what so many loved and respected about her.

She took pride in how she presented herself—always dressed up, often wearing fancy jewelry and a well-put-together outfit. She liked to joke about "putting her face on" while getting ready for the day.

Sylvia enjoyed spending time in her huge, beautiful yard and took great care of her flowers. She was an avid bowler and spent many years on a league. She also loved shopping and taking her granddaughters to pick out new outfits, and she always made time to take them bowling—something they will always remember and cherish.

One of her favorite pastimes was country swing dancing with her love and dance partner, Joe. They spent almost every weekend at the Jam together where they were well known for their exceptional swing dancing and two step skills.

In the last three years of her life, Sylvia lived in Wyoming, where she was lovingly cared for by her granddaughters, Rylee and Sydnee.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her daughters, Autumn and Kelly; her love, Joe; and several siblings.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Rylee (Trent) Hover, Sydnee Ivie, and Hayley (Jacob) Mathews; her "favorite ex son-in-law," Tim Ivie; her great-grandchildren, Gentry, Jenson and Makinlee; as well as her remaining siblings,

Sylvia will be remembered for her independence, her strength, and the memories she made with her family. We take comfort knowing she's dancing again with Joe and reunited with her daughters, Autumn and Kelly.

A celebration of life will be held in Washington this summer.
