Sally was born in Rock Springs, WY to Marjory Showers Pickell and John Clair "J.C." Pickell January 2, 1942, the fifth of seven children. She passed to spirit October 22, 2015. Sally was raised in southwestern Wyoming except for a brief period when the family lived in San Francisco, CA. She graduated as valedictorian from Eden-Farson High School in 1960. She went to San Diego, CA and was immediately employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She met and married Richard Armstrong and they had two sons. Richard and Sally were later divorced. In 1963 the family moved to Eugene, OR where Sally worked first for Manning Seed Company as an Independent Seed Cone Purchaser and later for Sears Roebuck and Company. In 1965 the family moved to Pinedale where Sally worked for a year for Delgado Oil Company and then moved on to a position with the USDA Forest Service. This led to various positions, promotions and moves with assignments to Libby, MT; Rapid City, SD; Missoula, MT; Elko, NV; McCall, ID; and finally to Portland, OR where she ultimately retired in 1994 as Deputy Station Director of the USDA Pacific Northwest Research Station. Sally's career with the Forest Service ranged from a G-S Clerk-Typist to a GM-14 Deputy Station Director. She received numerous cash awards and other forms of recognition for her achievements. During the last several years of her career, Sally was often involved in working with groups in Washington DC to assist in the development of national administrative policy within the Forest Service. She was the first female administrative officer in region 4 and later became the first female of a four person executive team at the Pacific Northwest Research Station where she directed all administrative activities and approved administrative research policy for the station and laboratories in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Sally married Elmer "Denny" Sullivan in Elko, NV in 1980. After she retired in 1994, she and her husband moved several times to either build homes or fix-up homes for resale. They lived in Battleground, WA; Casper, WY; Prescott Valley, AZ; Rock Springs, WY; Casa Grande, AZ: Montpelier, ID; Dewey, AZ; They also did extensive traveling and made many friends while "snowbirding" each winter in Arizona. They made a final move to Pinedale's Sublette Retirement Center after her husband suffered a devastating stroke in 2014. She is survived by her husband Elmer "Denny" Sullivan; sons Brian W. (Lori) Armstrong of Conway, AR; Karl G. Armstrong of Elko, NV; stepsons Blaine A. (Chiho) Sullivan of Lakeside, CA ; J. Mark (Marilyn) Sullivan of Farmington Hills, MI; Lance (Jodi) Sullivan of Mesa, AZ; stepdaughters Holly A. (Russ) Browder of Glendale, AZ; Kathleen (Chuck) Smith of Mead, WA and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Marjory and JC Pickell, sisters Marie Grever and Elsie Foote, and brothers Jack Pickell and Joe Pickell.
