Paul A. Hanson, 87, was born on the outskirts of Dunlap, Iowa on a third generation family farm. Gratefully received on May 5th, 1928 by his parents, Hans Hanson and Mary Emge. Paul grew with his siblings Howard, Bernard, Harold, Danny, Dick, Marie, and Lillian on the farm, and attended country school until the 8th grade. At the age of seventeen, Paul enlisted in the Navy,where he was transported to San Diego. There, he was assigned on an LCI in the South Pacific during the Atomic Bomb testing. After receiving his discharge in 1947, Paul returned to Dunlap,Iowa where he would marry Mary Black on August 1, 1949 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The couple moved to Pinedale, Wyoming in 1952, Paul initially working in a Ford dealership for Carl Worl, then electric companies; Pinedale Power, Lincoln Service, and Utah Power. As an involved member of the community, Paul served as a Town Council member, Fire Chief, VFW Post 4801 commander, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. As an enthusiast of music, Paul had god given talent for playing any instrument he laid fingers on. He was a member of the Hanson family orchestra and later the Pack Saddle Trio of Pinedale. Paul died Thursday, July 30th, 2015, at the Sublette Center in Pinedale at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Hanson, son in law Warren McHugh, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his seven children; Kathy (Warren) McHugh of Woodbine,Iowa Karol (Tom) Stephens of Tucson, Arizona Don (Sue) Hanson of Pinedale, Wyoming John(Jeanette) Hanson of Marbleton, Wyoming Ron (Laurie) Hanson of Pinedale, Wyoming Kerry(Lee)Bryant of Pinedale, Wyoming Kaidi Raney of Pinedale, Wyoming; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday August 4th at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Pinedale. Rosary will be Monday evening August 3rd at 6:00 P.M. at the church. Interment and military honors in the Pinedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kickin' Cancer or Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Pinedale, Wyoming.
