Obituary

O. Dean "Goat" Shields of LaBarge, Wyoming joined the love of his life in heaven on January 22 nd 2022. Dean was born November 26, 1949 to Eldred and Orlene Shields in Tooele, Utah.

He grew up in Pine Canyon, Utah and attended school in Tooele. In high school he met Jean Jones, and they were married June 12, 1970. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter. In 1978 they moved from Utah to Wyoming. They lived in Big Piney and Kemmerer before moving to LaBarge and calling it home.

Dean made his career working on the drilling rigs. He became well known nationwide and was an oilfield legend. He worked for several rig companies, but retired from True Drilling. He was also known for roofing, roustabout work, backhoe operator, and bartending.

He enjoyed hunting, panning for gold, rock-hounding, and looking for hidden treasures with his metal detector. What he loved the most was spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He was a very proud Papa to 4 grandsons and a granddaughter.

Dean is survived by his children  Anthony Shields, Richard Shields (Kelly), and Amanda Shields (Will); his grandchildren Michael Shields (Steele), Matthew Shields (Sierra), Shonteal Butcher (Nike), James Butcher (Samantha), and Craig Shields; his brothers Van Shields and Arlen Shields (Glenda); his brothers-in-law Bud Bryon, Robert Fortin, and Charlie "Chick" Jones (Theresa); his sister-in-law Cherie Bigelow (Steve), and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jean Shields, both parents, sisters Dolores Fortin and Janice Bryon, a niece Angela Fortin, his parents-in-law Jack and Betty Jones, and sister-in-law Beverly Shields.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife Jean in the Viola Cemetery. A memorial will be held at a later date during the summer.
