Maxine Stuart Leckie died on April 24, 2026, in Pinedale. Maxine was born November 18, 1942, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Margaret Elizabeth Chambers Leckie and Samuel Leckie. She had one sibling, a sister: Maryhelen Leckie Goicoechea. Maxine attended schools in Rock Springs, graduating from high school in 1961. She continued her studies at the University of Wyoming, earning a B.A. in 1966 with honor in Sociology. She was a member of the academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to work with Educational Testing Service until she pursued her higher education at the University of Washington in Seattle where she earned a Masters in Psychology. Maxine stayed in Seattle working at the University’s School of Nursing. She was an active member of the Prospect United Church of Christ and the Democratic Party. Upon her retirement in 2001, Maxine returned to Wyoming where she purchased and renovated a home in Cora. During her retirement years in Sublette County, Maxine was active with the Congregational Church in Pinedale and the Democratic Party. In 2016, Maxine was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award from Cally’s Helping Hands for her work on the Rural Health Care Foundation of Sublette County. She also helped on local ranches. A private family service is planned for a later date.
