Pinedale, WY resident Mary Ritter passed away at the Sublette Center on Tuesday, July 31st with her daughter by her side. Mary was born on April 11, 1927 to Bernard and Mary Margaret "Molly" (Fitzpatrick) Muller in Brooklyn, NY. Her childhood was a difficult one beginning at the age of 5 when her mother passed away, leaving her father with four young children. Mary became a ward of the state and spent the next 12 years in an orphanage and foster home separated from her brothers. Her father continued to faithfully visit Mary and they were reunited, along with her one brother, Bill, once she turned 17. For the next 18 years, Mary lived with her father while working clerical and secretarial jobs. While working at John Stuart Furniture Company in New York, NY, Mary fell in love with Harry Ritter. They married on November 10, 1962, and in January of 1964 were overjoyed when Mary gave birth to their only child. Mary devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, friend and neighbor. During her marriage to Harry, she and her family lived in several different towns in NJ and enjoyed square dancing, league bowling and their dogs. Harry, Mary and Andrea traveled by car across the United States and Canada during three separate summers. A highlight of these trips was visiting with the two brothers, Bernard and Donald, from whom Mary had been separated as a child. After Harry retired, they moved to North Carolina where they lived for eight years. During her time in N.C., Mary began working for Wal-Mart. After Harry's death in 1995, Mary began a new journey of moving around the country with her daughter and family. In her last 22 years she lived in Cody, WY, Lafayette, LA, Eagle River, AK and finally Pinedale, WY. For the past 19 years Mary had been legally blind. Despite her lack of sight and other physical challenges, Mary continued with her favorite hobbies including playing bingo, knitting, and watching old movies. For the past 7 1/2 years she lived in an apartment at the Sublette Center and was a regular at Rendezvous Pointe enjoying bingo, Wii bowling and the book club. She was also a faithful member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was known as a "prayer warrior," praying for a great number of people. Mary's faith and positive attitude were an inspiration to many. Although we will miss her, we are joyful that she is in the presence of the Lord. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law – Andrea and Jim Ennis of Pinedale, grandchildren Jeremiah and Abigail Ennis, also of Pinedale, and her nephew Jack Muller of San Jose, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry Ritter, her father Bernard Muller, her mother Mary Muller and her 3 brothers – Bernard Muller, William Muller and Donald Lather. Services for Mary will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Pinedale, WY. There will be a 7pm vigil on Thursday, August 9th and an 11am Mass on Friday, August 10th with a luncheon to follow.
