Born in 1919 to Leroy and Hazel Layland in Border Wyo. Ladd was the middle child of 17 siblings. Ladd's early life in Border was hard, working on his father's homestead and taking care of his younger siblings after his mother died of breast cancer. Ladd left the ranch and worked odd jobs until he married Martha Ellen Long on April 19 1943. To this union were born three children Jean Jarildean (Jeannie), Ladd Jaril Jr. (Pete) and Bert Leroy. Ladd's work, whatever it was always took him back to the timber, working in the Tie Camp on Middle Beaver creek, cutting posts and poles for local ranches, cutting fire wood to heat many homes in Sublette County. He also drove truck and he and Martha owned the Wrangler Cafe for 8-10 years. That's where you would find the best pies and cinnamon rolls for miles around. Some of Ladd's side jobs included plowing snow with his old Power Horse that he steered with ropes. Businesses and residents alike wanted Ladd to plow snow and he always made sure the ice rink was plowed for the kids. At the young age of 98 Ladd sure wanted to live to be 100 so he could be on the Today Show with Willard Scott. He almost made it with only 429 days to go that is 36,071 days here on earth, but he is dancing, fishing, & hunting with his partner Martha and catching up with siblings, kids and grandkids. Ladd is survived by his daughter Jeannie (Robin) Arthur and 93 grandchildren 5 of which are great great great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins galore. He was preceded in death by father Leroy Layland, mother Hazel Layland, all of his siblings, wife Martha Layland, two sons Pete Layland, Bert Layland, two grandsons Luke Layland, Bert Layland Jr. and two granddaughters Victoria (Tory) Layland and Rebecca Layland. Ladd Layland died peacefully August 20th 2018 at his granddaughter's home in Bargerville. He will be interred next to his wife Martha at Pinedale Cemetery Saturday August 25, 2018 at 10am with a luncheon to follow at the LDS Church.
