Obituary

John M. Thorson, 93, passed away peacefully at the Sublette Center in Pinedale, Wyoming on August 24, 2018. John was born January 25,1925 to Mons and Josie Freestad Thorson at Forsythe, Montana. John graduated from Huntley High School in 1943 as Valedictorian of his class. John joined the Army Air Corp in June 1943 and served until 1946 when the war ended. In 1958 John came to Big Piney with the Line Builders a company putting the dial system in Big Piney and LaBarge. On May 15, 1959 John married Millie Chadbourne in Elko, Nevada. They traveled for a few years with the Line Builders then came back to Big Piney were they made their home. John worked for his brother-in-law Chuck Davis at the Standard Service Station for several years then leased it after Chuck retired. John retired in the early nineties and he and Millie spent a lot of time fishing and camping. Millie died in 2004 and John stayed in their home and continued fishing and working in his shop until 2015 when he suffered a stroke and was moved to the Sublette Center in Pinedale. One of John's greatest joys was putting up a santa in a sleigh and a star on a pole so high it could be seen all over Big Piney and Marbleton. It was sad for everyone when John was unable to do it anymore. John went on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC which he enjoyed very much. John was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Alfred, Harold and sister Mary Moore. He is survived by several nephews and nieces.
