James Walter Malkowski passed away on July 4th 2020 after a brief battle with an aggressive infection. He was 69.

Jim was born on May 13th 1951 in Eugene Oregon to Walter and Helen Malkowski and had one brother Tom. He attended the University of Oregon and moved to Wyoming shortly after. Jim met his wife Kay in 1973, it took him five years to convince her to marry him in 1978. They welcomed their first son Morgan in 1983 and their second son Matthew in 1985. Jim worked for Sublette County Road and Bridge for over 40 years.

Jim loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed reading and singing at church and he was a member of the Community Choir for over 40 years. But Jim was the happiest when he was helping someone else. He was ready at the drop of a hat to drive a friend to a doctor's appointment or hit the road for a visit to friends and family. His spring break trips to Oregon were an annual trek he and the boys made for years. He traveled thousands of miles to watch his boys play sports and visit them all over the country as they have moved about. Jim had a strong opinion and was not afraid to share it. However, he was willing to listen to opposing arguments but you better have your ducks in a row. Oregon Ducks, that is!

He was on the Sublette County District #1 school board for 21 years, a position he took very seriously. Sublette County was well represented when Jim showed up. Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church saw his dedication on the Parish Council. He served the Green River Valley Cattlemen and the Museum of the Mountain Men before he committed to the School Board.

It seems fitting that he will be laid to rest on Rendezvous Weekend as he drove a team for over 40 years in the Pageant. The Pageant is not happening this year and he won't be driving.

Jim is survived by his wife Kay, sons Morgan and Matthew, daughters in law Jordan and Bevin, and grandchildren Colin, Emmett, Brynn, Grant, and Alana. We will all miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 11th at 10:00 AM at the De Smet Prairie Mass Site, interment will follow in the Daniel Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a reception following the services at the Daniel Schoolhouse. Rosary will take place Friday evening July 10th at 5:30 PM at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Pinedale.
