Longtime Sublette County resident Dr. James Larry Platts passed away August 6, 2015 at the Sublette Center. "Doc" as he preferred to be called, was born December 2, 1930 to James and Susan Platts in Green River, Wyoming. Shortly after graduating from Green River High School he served in the Korean War as a tank commander in the Wyoming National Guard. He then did his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah and completed dental school at Northwestern University. He returned to the Army as a dental officer. It was there he met and married Daphne Kay Davis. In 1969 Doc was honorably discharged and the family moved to Pinedale where he practiced dentistry for 40 years. A fan of many sports, he loved the Wyoming Cowboys, St. Louis Cardinals and Denver Broncos. He was an avid golfer and was heavily involved with starting Rendezvous Meadows Golf Course. Doc loved Pinedale, his home on Pine Creek and his German Shepherds. He is survived by his wife Daphne Platts; sons Warren James, Michael Scott, and Joel Jay Platts; sister Jean Kay Kinkade and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Susan Maureen Platts and brother Avard Ted Platts. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday August 10th at 11:00 AM in the Pinedale Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the Pinedale V.F.W. for a reception following the service.
