George Floyd Hook, age 68, of Big Piney , WY passed away peacefully June 9th, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. George was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on February 7th, 1952 to Floyd and Leitha Hook. His mother, Leitha , passed away shortly after, due to complications following childbirth. Floyd went on to marry George's step mom, Opal. Opal loved and raised George as her very own. In the third grade, George's dad, Floyd , moved the family to Big Piney, Wyoming where he would work for many years in the oil and gas industry.

George attended Big Piney High School and was a phenomenal athlete. He lettered in both football and track. He held a hurdle record for many years, an accomplishment he remained proud of until the day of his passing. He also loved racing dirt bikes and hunting gophers with his beagle. When George was a sophomore, he met Deborah Sue Chapin (whom he would later be married to for 33 years) and together, they would share five daughters; Heather, Georgia Dawn, Hope, Kassi and Autumn. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren; Jake, Levi, Holli, Collin, Braedon, Presleigh, Gavin, Gage, Easton, Berrik, Camden and Jordyn.

In 2007, George took a job in the Jonah Field transporting heavy equipment for McMurry and Nerd. There, he met and married Jana Hook. She had three sons from a previous marriage, whom he adopted in 2008, Rory, Jace and Ira Hook. They purchased a piece of property in Manderson, Wyoming and George drove home on the weekends. Their oldest son passed away in 2012 and they divorced shortly after.

Approaching retirement, George decided to relocate to Belize City, Belize. He spent the following five years with his toes in the water and hands in the sand. Had he not fallen ill, it is unlikely that he would have ever left the tropical weather that he enjoyed so much.

In spite of all the things that George was-- a father, a brother, a son, a papa, and an incredible friend-- he will be remembered most for his greatest passion, hunting. At one given point, George had 18 hounds and had used his weekends to guide hunts for bears and mountain lions. Several winters in a row, he had the opportunity to collar lynx for Game and Fish, in order to track their behavior and movements. Beyond the thrill of the hunt, the friendships gained were the foundation to George's success. Wink, Miles, Bill, Mitch, Jet, Van and Bangerter were just common household names. Every weekend was a new adventure and one that would hold memories for George to share and cherish up until his passing.

His personality, sense of humor and the ability to make you smile on any given day will never be forgotten. We will forever have the impression left on all of our hearts and find peace in knowing that one day, we will all be reunited.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday June 12th at 11:00 AM at the Plainview Cemetery in Big Piney. Family and friends will gather at the Encana Park in Marbleton for a reception following the service.
