Obituary

Floyd Louis Briggs, Jr. was born on October 2, 1930 on a farm near Underwood Iowa in Neola to Julia C. Rasmussen Briggs and Floyd Louis Briggs, Sr. His two sisters, Beverly Malick and Judith (Richard) Borwick still reside in the Council Bluffs area. Floyd graduated from Underwood High School in 1949. He was recognized as the first student school bus driver in Iowa at the age of 17. After high school, Floyd and his friend Robert Sweedler, traveled to Pinedale Wyoming. They worked for a local rancher and various other jobs in the Pinedale area until Floyd was drafted into the US Marine Corps in 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict. He married Kathryn Jorgensen in April of 1953 and received an honorable discharge in September of the same year. They owned a ranch west of Pinedale, Wyoming where they raised four daughters and enjoyed many trips to Iowa, California, Arizona, Hawaii, Alaska, and Florida.

Floyd passed away peacefully at the Sublette Center Nursing Home in Pinedale on November 2, 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathryn, daughters, Gayle (Leonard) Powers, Janet (Jefferson) Goulette, Linda Wolcott, and Susan (Sidney) Stanfill, eight grand-children, eight great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Floyd was a life-time member of the Green River Valley Cattlemen's Association, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, the Order of Eastern Star, the VFW, and the Pinedale Community UCC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Sublette Center.

Internment will be at the Pinedale Cemetery. A community celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please share your memories on the Covill Funeral Home website at covillfuneralhome.com.
