Faye Dean Poindexter Gonzales

January 17, 1941 – July 18, 2020

Our beloved mother Faye, of Pinedale, Wyoming, passed away in her home on July 18, 2020, at the age of 79, due to complications related to Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD).

Faye was born in Ramseur, North Carolina, on January 17, 1941, to Rufus Clayton and Collie Poindexter. She grew up on a farm with three brothers, Rufus Jr., Billy, Jimmy and sister Mary. Faye and her siblings rose early every morning to work the farm prior to leaving for school. While attending Farm Life School, Carthage, North Carolina, Faye played high school basketball, a sport in which she excelled. After graduating from high school, she met a soldier from Fort Bragg, North Carolina: Albert Courtland Hunt, Provo, Utah. They married on February 5, 1961. After Al was discharged from the United States Army, the couple moved to Modesto, California. They divorced in 1972. In 1973 Faye married Raymond Gonzales, Modesto, California. They later divorced.

Faye worked as a waitress for over 40 years. Always a cheerful and helpful server, she enjoyed many repeat customers and wonderful co-workers. She especially enjoyed her 20 years as an employee of Ridgway's Restaurant, Modesto, California. After retiring from Ridgway's, Faye continued to live in Modesto near her oldest daughter and two sons. She enjoyed going to lunch and visiting with her children and friends, tending her indoor and outdoor plants, doing word search puzzles and watching game shows religiously. Faye was a fabulous cook! She enjoyed preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals surrounded by her family. She also enjoyed annual train rides from California to Utah to visit her daughter, grandchildren, great aunt and uncle, and cousins who lived there. In 2010 she moved to Provo, Utah to live near another daughter. After her daughter accepted a position in and moved to Pinedale, Wyoming, Faye moved to Pinedale in 2018. While living at Aspen Grove Retirement Center in Pinedale, Faye enjoyed watching the deer and moose outside of her living room window. She looked forward each week to playing Pinochle at Rendezvous Pointe and Bingo three times a week at the Sublette Center. In the evenings you could find her watching her favorite television game shows: Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Faye's children were her purpose for living. She often said she would give her last dime to help her children. On many occasions she did. Not a day went by that she did not pray for them or inquire after their well-being and needs. Mother, you fought a good fight, you finished your course and kept the faith. Now there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give you. Until we meet again you will be dearly missed. We love you forever.

Faye is survived by: her four children, Daphne Faye Goldsmith (Danny) and Jason Todd Hunt (Keri) of Modesto, California, Lori Ann Joyner (Jim) and Clayton Scott Hunt, Pinedale, Wyoming; her brother Jimmy Dan Poindexter (Geraldine), Rockingham, North Carolina; her nephew Darrell Keith Poindexter (James), Hamptonville, North Carolina; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two ex-husbands, two daughters Rhonda Kay Hunt (infant) and Donna Lynn Hunt Van Buren, two brothers Rufus Clayton Poindexter Jr. and Billy Lee Poindexter, her sister Mary Alice Williams, two nephews Terry Lee and Ronnie Jerry Williams, and one grandson James Edward Chaffee.

Faye's children thank the doctors, nurses, social workers, respiratory, physical and occupational therapists of St. John's Health, Jackson, Wyoming; Addison Cummings, Best Home Health and Hospice, Evanston, Wyoming; Dr. Renae Dorrity, Sublette County Rural Health Care District, Pinedale, Wyoming; Dr. Randy Kjorstad, St. John's Physician's Clinic, Jackson, Wyoming; Sue Eversull, Kathy Rebescher and Christy O'Connor, Rendezvous Pointe, Pinedale, Wyoming; Rhonda Egle and James Schroeck, Aspen Grove Retirement Center, Pinedale, Wyoming; Church of the Resurrection, Pinedale, Wyoming; Kylah Bowers, Altitude Pharmacy, Pinedale, Wyoming; and Lincare, Big Piney, Wyoming. Because of all of you our mother was able to live an independent lifestyle within a caring, supportive community until the end of her life. For this we are deeply grateful.

Per Faye's request, cremation has taken place. The family extends their gratitude to Curt Covill, Covill Funeral Home, Pinedale, Wyoming, for his care and kindness to our family. A graveside memorial and interment will take place in North Carolina at a later date.
