Memorial services for Edwin Earl Widman, age 84, will be held on September 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lander, Wyoming. Mr. Widman died August 23, 2023 at the Sublette Center, Pinedale, Wyoming.

He was a long-time resident of Riverton where he lived with his wife, Candace.

He was born on May 1, 1939, in Laramie, Wyoming. He grew up in Centennial, where his parents owned and operated the Rosedale Dairy.

He started breaking horses at the age of ten, and spent his summers through his public school years working for his father and Centennial and Laramie area ranchers wrangling horses and cattle.

He graduated from Laramie High School and the University of Wyoming where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC. He entered the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and, after a time serving as an Air Traffic Controller, and, later, as Navigator for KC-135 jets. He flew numerous missions during the Viet Nam War to refuel jet fighters, earning commendations for valor when his crew rescued crippled fighters from enemy air space. He was ranked Captain when he left the service.

After leaving the Air Force, he was employed with the California Department of Corrections as a teacher, electrician, and he managed the television system at Soledad Prison. He transferred to their Interstate Paroles Office where he remained until returning to Wyoming and joining the Wyoming Department of Corrections. While in California he obtained his master's degree in counselling at Chapman College.

He retired from the Wyoming Department of Corrections after serving as Counsellor, Case Worker, Case Manager, and Lay Chaplain at the State Penitentiary in Rawlins and the Honor Farm in Riverton.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lander for twenty years.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Bailey, his father, Earl Widman, and his brother, Roy Widman. He leaves his son, David Widman in Pennsylvania, his daughter, Alexa Cornell in Colorado, his stepdaughter, Alicia Masson in Florida, and stepsons Mark Fagan in Minnesota and Max Hawk in Riverton, as well as his wife, Candace. He also leaves ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
