Obituary

Edward Ray Brewer, of Pinedale, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at Heritage Home in Pinedale on May 8, 2026 at the age of 88.

Ed was born on August 15, 1937, in the small town of Spearfish, South Dakota, to Kyle Brewer and Naomi (Crippen) Brewer. The family later moved to eastern Wyoming and eventually to Lander, Wyoming, when Ed was about 14 years old. In 1952, they settled in Pinedale, a community that would always hold a special place in his heart.

Ed grew up with his younger brother, Richard (deceased), and his sister, Charlotte (Brewer) Faler. During his high school years, Ed was an avid athlete, participating in many sports, but he especially loved football and rodeo—interests that reflected his lifelong connection to the Western way of life.

On January 16, 1957, Ed enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Ord, California, where he served with L Company, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 5th Division. After leaving the Army in 1959, Ed remained in California and went to work on several ranches. There he learned and honed the trades that would define much of his life: horse training, blacksmithing, and farrier work. Over the years, he became well known to many as “Brewer the Shoer.”

Though later divorced, Ed remained in contact with his stepchildren, Richard and Debbie, who continued to hold a special place in his life. In 2000, Ed moved back to Pinedale from California, returning to the Wyoming country he loved and making it his home for the rest of his years.

Ed is survived by his sister, Charlotte Faler; his niece and nephew, Lana and Ralph Faler; his first cousin, Vance Brewer; his sister-in-law Rosemarie and her three children Tracy, Keith and Kimberly. He was surrounded by a host of close friends, including Andy and Wendy, as well as many others who knew him through his work with horses and his life in the community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Naomi Brewer, and his brother, Richard Brewer.

Ed will be remembered for his hard work, his skill with horses, his straightforward nature, and the many friendships he forged over a lifetime spent under big Western skies. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors with hunting, fishing and team roping.

Celebration of life will be held on August 8th from 2pm-4pm at Rendezvous Point in Pinedale Wy, and we welcome all friends and family that would like to remember Ed.
