Edna Mae Swain was born in Musselshell, MT, on May 21, 1917, to William Nye and Pearl Howey. She attended schools in Musselshell, and Saratoga, WY; she graduated high school in Saratoga. The family moved to Pinedale in 1935, and her parents purchased a ranch on Pole Creek. Edna worked for the Mollring family at their hardware store. She met and married Horace Swain in 1937. To this union were born five children: Vernon, who now lives in Evanston; Ron, from Idaho; Pam (Larry Kirkpatrick), Pinedale; Julie, Pinedale; and Garland (Rhonda), also from Pinedale. Edna was a lifetime member of the Green River Valley Cattlemen's Association and an active member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She also made time to be a 4-H leader, Boy Scout leader, Jobs Daughter sponsor, and, most important, she was a full-time mother and rancher. Her leisure time was spent crocheting, cooking, reading and sewing, which included making numerous quilts.  She was also an avid gardener with a beautiful yard. Edna will be remembered for her faith, kindness, and love to all who knew her. She is survived by her five children, one brother, Roland (Liz) of Casa Grande, AZ, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Burt and Lee, her sister Billie, three grandchildren, Dinah, Jody and Greg, and great-grandson Lane. Per her instructions, Edna was cremated and a celebration of life memorial will be held this summer. The family would like to thank Sublette Center staff for their wonderful care of our mother the last few years.
