Deborah “Debbie” Sue Chapin Bennett was born on March 9, 1952, in Basin, Wyoming, to Harvard and Dorothy Chapin. She grew up alongside her siblings, Ben, Ron, Penny, Barbara, and Bill, and attended school in Big Piney, Wyoming, a community that would remain an important part of her life for many years.

Debbie married George Hook, and together they welcomed five daughters: Heather, Dawn, Hope Ann, Kassi, and Autumn. Later in life, Debbie found love again and married Steve Bennett of Big Piney in 2005.

Throughout her life, Debbie was a dedicated and hardworking woman. Over the years, she held many roles, including pool supervisor and cheerleading coach. She also worked for Sublette County School District #9 and the State Bank of Big Piney before beginning a career with the Bridger-Teton National Forest, where she worked for many years. She later continued working during the summers for the towns of Big Piney and Marbleton.

Debbie loved being outdoors. She enjoyed walking and took great pride in her yard work, always finding something to keep her busy outside. Whether she was tending to her own yard or working alongside the summer help, she enjoyed staying active, being outdoors, and making things beautiful.

With five daughters, Debbie was blessed with a large and growing family, including many grandchildren who lovingly knew her simply as “Nan.” Being Nan was a special part of her life, and it was a name she wore with love and pride.

In her later years, Debbie was blessed by Steve’s unwavering love and devotion. He remained faithfully by her side, caring for her with patience, compassion, and dedication. Her family will always be grateful for the love and care he gave her.

While her family will miss her deeply, they find comfort in knowing that when Debbie entered Heaven’s gates, she was joyfully reunited with her daughter, Hope.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday September 9th at 1:30 p.m. at the Plainview Cemetery in Big Piney. Family and friends will gather for a reception following the service at the Marbleton Senior Center.
