Dayan "Day" L. Elder, 41, of Big Piney passed away March 4 at his home with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Day was born December 15, 1973 in Butler, PA to Harry and Nancy Elder. He graduated from Shippensburg High School then worked for Midwest Harvesting Crew; later he drove for Craig's livestock until the time he purchased his own truck and operated his own company Elder Trucking. He moved to Big Piney in 2002 and started in the restaurant business and has worked the last several years in the area for Shell. Day was an avid outdoorsman & sportsman; he loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed photography. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the N.R.A. and attended the Baptist Church. Day is survived by his parents Harry and Nancy Elder; son Tristin Elder; brothers Monty (Linsey) Elder, Dwight (Kristy) Elder; sisters Dawn Elder, Brenda (Brad) Howell and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Harry and Bernice Elder, Raymond and Phyllis Snoke and step-grandmother Dorothy Elder. A funeral service will be held Tuesday evening March 10th at 6:00 P.M. at Covill Funeral Home. Day's wishes are to be cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a favorite hunting spot in the summer.
