Elizabeth Josephine Heydt known by all as Betty Jo, died peacefully, surrounded by many generations of her family on Saturday, October 15th, 2016. Betty Jo was born in Houston, Texas in December 1921. She attended Rice University and lived in Houston until her husband's job in the oil business took them to Montana.  After several moves, they eventually settled in Pinedale, Wyoming with their four children, Judy, Francie, Debi and Tom where she worked for the BLM until retiring. After retiring she moved to Jackson where she continued to be actively involved with her church, her family, gardening, travel, art and crafts. She delighted in creating gardens, large or small and watching the birds visit her plentiful supply of feeders. Betty Jo volunteered as a lay chaplain and greeter at St. John's Medical Center, bringing comfort to friends and strangers alike. Betty Jo had a spirit of hospitality and setting another place at the table was never an inconvenience. She had a desire to put others' needs before her own. She was always ready should a costume need to be made, a cake to be baked, a prayer said, or a friend visited.  She enjoyed playing bridge, reading and could often be found at the puzzle table.  Betty Jo always had a sense of adventure, and shared her love of life with all she met. Her sparkling eyes, compassion, friendship and kindness made her a fast friend to all. No matter where she lived Betty Jo always generously volunteered and gave her time to the community. One of the first things Betty Jo did when arriving in a new place was join a church and become an active member. Many of the members of her church will remember her warm smile and dedication, not to mention the hundreds of bulletins she lovingly folded. The family of Betty Jo would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the close friends and the team at St. John's Living Center. You have made a huge difference in our lives and we appreciate you. Betty Jo is survived by her brother, four children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. All are welcome to attend a celebration of life Friday, October 21st 11:30 am at the Pinedale Cemetery followed by a gathering of friends and family at Moose Creek Catering, 1220 Wilson Street in Pinedale, Wyoming.
