Bernard John Overgaag, "Bernie", passed away in Pinedale, WY August 21, 2016. He was born July 28, 1916 in Red Lodge, Montana to John and Antoinette Overgaag, who were Dutch immigrants. He married Genevieve St. Thomas on August 3, 1940 in Columbus, Montana. Soon after their marriage, Bernie and Gen moved to Greybull, Wyoming where they enjoyed the "good life" in Wyoming for more than 60 years. Bernie was known as a hard worker who could fix anything. He worked as a mechanic for several of the car dealers in town. In the 50's he and his partner, Harlod Rose, built the O & R Standard Station where he often worked 20 hours a day. For years he was employed by Hawkins and Powers Aviation as a mechanic and he spent many summers in Alaska with their firefighting crew. Bernie spent quite some time in Alaska working as a welder on the pipeline. His welding expertise became well known among many of the camps. If a specialized part was needed, often the task was given to Bernie who was always able to design and create the needed part. Bernie was active in the Greybull community. He was a member of the Greybull Fire Department for many years and even served as fire chief. As a Jaycee, he supervised the Days of '49 fireworks display for a number of years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all – the Overgaag family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. There he found peace and comfort after Genevieve died. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, wife Genevieve and a daughter Connie Overgaag Wamhoff. Survivors include his brother Henry (Marie) Overgaag, Redlands, CA; daughters: Judy Overgaag Grenier, Cheyenne, WY ; Terry Overgaag Busch (Gary), Alexandria, MN; and son John Overgaag (Michelle), Pinedale, WY. Grandchildren: Debbie Grenier Simms (Steve), Lauren Simms, Mitchell Simms; Darlene Grenier Mech (Tim), Joshua Mech, Emily Mech; Jeremy Busch (Suzie); Daniel Overgaag (Shannon); Jennifer Overgaag; Chancie Wamhoff; Sara Busch Carlson (Randy); and Greg Busch. His great-grandchildren include Cooper Carlson, Wyatt Carlson, Gavin Wamhoff, Adam Baum, Jackson Overgaag and Ruby Overgaag. A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday October 29, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Pinedale at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Bernie's life will be held in the summer of 2017 at the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains.
