Obituary

Ava Davis passed away July 30, 2018 at the Sublette Center in Pinedale, Wyoming. She was 100 years old. Ava Lavelle Gunter was born August 9, 1918 on the family farm at Seymore, Iowa. She was the sixth child born to Harlen and Jessie Rockwell Gunter. When Ava was born she weighed only 3 pounds so the midwife had them build a small fire in the cook stove and put her in a basket in the oven, she always said that's why she was half baked. When Ava was 3 months old her dad died from the 1918 flu. So her mom sold the farm and moved into Seymore with her grandparents. When Ava was 15 she came to Big Piney to stay with her Uncle Bob and Aunt Edna Gunter, but after a year she got homesick and went back to Seymore where she finished high school. After graduation she came back to Big Piney where she met a handsome cowboy working on the Joe Budd ranch, named Chuck Davis. They were married December 1, 1936 in Pinedale, Wyoming and made their home in Big Piney. After 50 years of marriage Chuck passed away and Ava remained in their little house where she lived until she had a stroke and moved to the Sublette Center in Pinedale. Ava was a very active member in Eastern Star where she served as a worthy matron. Triangle Homemaker's Club and Lady Lions Club, and a member of the congregational church. Ava and chuck had a daughter Marilyn Sue that passed away in August 1939 just before her second birthday and never had any more children but was very special to all her nieces and nephews. They helped raise a nephew Bruce Chadbourne. Dick and Georgia Wenz and Ron and Dianne Davidson were her close family that spent a lot of time with her.  Ava is survived by nieces and nephews Georgia and Dick Wenz, Ron and Dianne Davison, Bruce Chadbourne, Rex Couchman Marvin Couchman, Donna Bryan, Danny Couchman, Richard Couchman, John Gunter, Ava Wahl and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Davis, daughter Marilyn Sue, brothers Buss Gunter, Bob Gunter, Don McCrackin, sisters Lorene Couchman, Guelda Davison, Millie Thorson, niece Gretchen Gunter Kip, nephew Bob Gunter and great nephew Ron Wenz.
